The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. The standard for apparel manufacturing covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70% certified organic natural fibers. The final products may include, but are not limited to fiber products, yarns, fabrics, clothes, and home textiles. It enables textile processors and manufacturers to export their organic fabrics and garments in all major markets. It is a must need for sustainable manufacturers. Currently, Bangladesh has over 689 GOTS certified facilities
Ensures sustainability in fashion
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building rating program, operated by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a non-profit coalition of building industry leaders. The goal of the rating system is to encourage and reward sustainable design across several metrics—sustainable site choice, energy savings, water efficiency, reduction of CO2 emissions, and indoor environmental quality, among others—all while improving company profitability and employee well-being. Currently, Bangladesh has the highest number (91) of LEED-certified green garment factories in the world. It means 6 out of the top 10 LEED-certified factories worldwide are in Bangladesh
Required for eco-friendly clothing manufacturing
The Organic Content Standard (OCS) applies to any non-food product containing 5-100% organic material. It verifies the presence, amount of organic material in a final product, and it tracks the flow of raw materials from the source to the final product, and this process is certified by an accredited third-party. The OCS allows for transparent, consistent, and comprehensive independent evaluation and verification of organic material content claims on products. It assures sustainable clothing brands about maintaining sustainability in their fashion goods. Currently, Bangladesh has 1,194 organic textile facilities.
